I agree on some of this. The founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they saw how much of this great country is controlled by the massive federal government. They threw tea in Boston harbor over a lousy tax. How would they feel if the King of England had actually dared to mandate how much water they could use in the latrine? Our government does just that, low flow toilets anyone?
The reason there are so many laws is that we have changed over the past couple of hundred years from a congress of farmers and workers who spend a couple of terms in DC into a nation with professional senators and congressmen who spend decades there. They have no experience of living under the laws they create. So they just stay there in Washington creating more and more laws to show that they have done something.

Because freedom requires a careful balance: not everyone can be absolutely 100% free to do what they want, because then they will be impacting on other people's freedom.
For example, we can't have a society where people are free to commit murder, because then that would be depriving other citizens of their right to life.
So, similarly, the problem with religion is that there are just so darn many of them, any time you let one religion express itself in a public place, you are negatively impacting on the freedoms of people who do not believe in that religion.
So the U.S. (and particularly the Supreme Court) has had to try to carefully balance these competing pressures and come up with the best set of rules to accomodate the freedom of the greatest number.

America's not as "fair" as it seems...in fact, I think Canada is more "free"...legal gay marriage, legal drinking age at 18/19 instead of 21 in the U.S., etc...but ironically America is the most religious country, but to be fair to atheists/non-religious people, there has to be separation of church-state. But I think there has to be a limit- laws must exist for a society to exist.

THE US has began to lie to its citizens and therefor we are no longer the land of the free but we should be called the land that is ran by the fool. WHO indeed is causing us all this pain, and money. We are no longer free, we are not free to wear certain things in certain places...thats not being free.

The Jews, atheists and other Democrats turned the Contitution on its head. One day other SC judges will overturn these laws.

you may have religion in the schools...just not if you force everyone in the school to participate. How would you feel if force to say prayers to Allah five times a day while in school? Or, if you were forced to pray to Buddha every morning before classes?

there are laws against practicing religion in school because education is controlled by the government and the government and religion are constitutionally supposed to be two different entities. if you could practice religion at school it wouldn't be fair to people who don't practice religion.

Because we are not free. I personally have no liberty, no freedom, and the laws in place protect the criminals who destroyed my life not the people it is supposed to protect. Criminals rule.
