I read a few months back that Halliburton has been ripping off the government and overcharging the government for loads of stuff, and since Cheney and Bush and some other GOP slimebags are huge Halliburton shareholders, shouldn't they be charged with embezzlement since they are part owners of the company and have control over what the company does ?

The board of directors should be indicted.

Some of the things you read about have caused "charge-backs" to the company. In other words, they have to pay back to the government things that they over charged the government. If anyone is responsible for this - it is Halliburton itself - not the shareholders. Shareholders only "invest" in the company - they don't tell the company what to do or how to operate. The decision makers of Haliburton may need to answer to its shareholders for what it has done - but not the shareholders themselves.

You don't have your facts right, Cheney and Bush don't have control over the company, it is a public company with an independent board of directors in control of management. If you want to have any effect on the system stay in school, learn to listen to both sides of an argument. You should probably understand that one party isn't better than the other. Take it from a reforming Democrat, once you sort through the rhetoric, neither party is better than any other. Their purpose is to promote domestic stability to allow business to be carried out. Each party's motive has very little to do with the people that they wish to govern and more to do with the PACs and corporations that pay to get their members elected.

No...Shareholders are lending their money to the company in hopes of a good return on their investment. The board of directors are the ones solely responsible for the actions of the company.

With regard to the VP, as with every presidential/vice-presidential candidate Cheney sold off his Halliburton stock in 2000 prior to taking office. This type of transaction is exactly why President Carter lost his farm while in office...he let Billy "run" things for him to avoid conflicts of interest.

Too bad the senators aren't required to make the same kind of divestitures.

Or how about fraudulent film makers like Moore (see articles below)

Shareholders have very little control over how much the company charges for certain services. Maybe the officers of Halliburton should be in jail, but not the shareholders.
