Do you feel you got a raw deal being raised in a culture that had double standards when it came to how daugthers were raised (in my case strict parents, could not go out, had to do the households chores where my brothers NEVER did) and sons(allowed to go out, freedom galore and never had to explain or beg their position). Just wondering if there are any girls/women who are/have gone through this and how do they feel about it. Thanks.

Yes and yes. I did hold the grudge against my mum for a long time until I realized that she didn't know any better - that was the way she was brought up. It's all so much better when you move away from your parents, and I moved FAR AWAY. Then I figured out how do I want to live my life. In one way, now I'm kind of grateful that I was brought up this way, because it made me stronger, I keep open mind and learn every day and I'm not taking any crap from either my family or any man. We have good relationship now and my family have respect for me that they don't have for any of my brothers....but it was a long and thorny road to get there.

Italian girls were raised by strict parents in the 30s, 40's, 50s, things are totally changed since 60s, as an Italian woman born and raised in Italy I can assure you our parents aren't strict anymore but a few exception.
When I lived with my parents as a teenager I could go out, I didn't have to do the household chores as a duty (but I DID helped my mom), nowadays Italian girls have much more freedom than I received, sometimes, as a paradox, its even too much freedom.
