Actually, history has shown that many successful marriages were based on an arrangement. The man fulfilled his role, the wife hers and they were committed to take care of each other til death. Many sociologists believe that once love became more important than the arrangement, the institution of marriage deteriorated quickly.
The most important thing to consider is what is important to you!

That depends on who you love or who your marriage is arranged to, you can end up with a bad one or a good one either way. Of course, if its arranged and you end up with a bad one at least YOU don't feel like an idiot for choosing so badly, that would make your dad the idiot!

I can give you a perspective from a daughter whose mother was forced to marry my father. She endured daily brutal beatings by my grandfather and her brother until she submitted to marrying my father. She did not know him at all. Her life has been hell because of that and I have enormous issues with men, marriage and children. I saw what my mother went through and I did not want any of it. She is angry, bitter and so sad all of the time. She is never ever happy and being raised by a mother like that can only have one outcome. I am screwed up because of it.

Your mother is your pulse to the world. Nothing and I repeat NOTHING good ever comes out of an arranged marriage. And anyone who tells you otherwise is a LIAR. Without choice in love you are doomed.

I just had this conversation with a good friend of mine. Most arranged marriages survive as apposed to marriages where people get to choose there own mates. Kinda funny but kinda not.
