In the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, when a match goes to extra time (for example both matches finish 1-1) and if both teams score 1 each in extra time is the away team declared the winner due to the away goals rule or does this rule not count during extra time meaning the match goes to penalties?

It would mean that the Team with the most Away goals wins. In your scenario that would be wich ever team are away on the 2nd leg because they scored in one more away goal than the other team during the extra time.

If the score had of been 1-1 home and 1-1 away with no goals scored in extra time it will go to penalties.

There is no Silver/Golden goal or any other rule for the Champions league!

The away team is declared the winner, cuz when the sum of goals of the 2 teams in the 2 matches is equal, the away goal is 2,so the away team wins 5-3.
(this rule is counted during extra time)

Away team is declared as winner on away goals rule. But, the match/the tournement may have a different system such as golden rule( the first scorrer in the extra times win)or silver goal (if a team scores a goal match is played untill the end of the first extra half, if the other team can not level the match then first scorer is declared as winner)

"Knock-out rounds
A draw determines who each of the 16 clubs will play in the first knock-out stage, with ties decided over two matches on a home and away basis. The club that scores the greater aggregate of goals advances, or in the event of both teams scoring the same number of goals, the team which scores more away goals. If the away-goals rule proves inconclusive, extra time of two periods of 15 minutes is played after the second match. If during extra time both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (ie the visiting team advances). If no goals are scored during extra time, the winner is decided by penalty kicks. The two teams that advance from the knock-out round contest the final, held as a single match in May."

It's basically saying that if they both score one goal in extra time of the 2nd Leg. The away team advances, no penalties need. The extra time needs to finish with the same score as the end of regulation for there to be penalties.

The Away goals rule does count in extra-time and so the away team would be declared winners.

well it would got to penalty kicks cuz they have to have a winner if it is knockout and if the teams r evenly matched meaning they r tied that is the only way to decide

Depends on what FIFA has stipulated for that competition... different competitions have different laws -- its not black and white!
