the elephant represents a bloated, oversized, arrogant & is 'un aware of the ants' (us). the donkey represents stubborn ignorance bogged in a quagmire of bureaucracy. both could be subtle, intelligant & mindful of their surroundings but never are.

It had to do with a cartoon back in the 'old' days that was made by a political cartoonist (come on guys, help me out here!) I can't remember the details tho. Sorry. ADD? Anyway, in the Bible, everything dealing with the left is bad and the right is good! Old Testament AND New Testament. Isn't that incredible? It is very much like America today. The LEFT is BBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! And the RIGHT is VEWY GOOD!

The original elephant and *** represented the vote and not the party. It was a cartoonist depiction. The *** had actually frightened the elephant in Nast's original depiction. But the *** of the time was the NY Herald.
