Ok I want an animal that will stay in a cage in my room that wont make my mom complain about the smell. I can handle any amount of cleaning they take and it can't be a hamster or something like them and I have had plenty of fish in my life.

Is the $50 the initial animal purchase price or do you need to include housing, feeding, supplements, vet visits etc in that $50?

Do you want a bird, mammal, fish, reptile, insect ...???

I have a rabbit and 2 guinea pigs. The main expense is the cages but once u get the cages and their supplies youll be fine. Once u have animals etc all they need is the shelter...food..and ur attention. You cant just have an animal in a cage and think thats all there is. They need out for exercise or just to be held and loved on. And my pets dont smell with their cages cleaned as they should be. My animals arent that expensive to maintain. Just the bedding materials and the produce they eat. Good luck deciding what pet you want. Googling is a great source of information before a pet purchase.

LIttle tree frogs or geckos are cute and you can put mulitple ones in there. Geckos range in price from like $6 to $60 but you can get some reallly cool looking ones. But, I have a bluetongue skink that is awesome! Very tame and gentle. But they can be alittle costly because you have to keep the tank warm. Don't get a iguana!! Their messy and get huge!! If you have a Petco or Petsmart near you and can get there, stop by and stroll the store! It actually depends on whether you want something also that you can pick up, or just look at in the tank. Can you answer that first and I can give you alot more advice on what to choose from!! ;)

Well if your looking for something small that doesn't smell then you might want to think of a bunny rabbit. I don't know if you consider them to be like a hamster. The are very cute and lovable animals. They don't make to much of a mess. Very easy to take care of and they do not smell and you never have to bath them. And they are very cheap to take care of.

One of the most delightful pets in the world is the ferret. Look into getting one from a shelter. Will cost next to nothing. All kinds of websites devoted to the little critters, too. Have fun.

Parakeet. they're like 17 $ each and they are kept in a cage. Smell isnt that bad unless you dont change it for like a month. They chirp a little but its perfect!

My son had a pet rat for 4 yrs. and she was very friendly and a great pet. I don't think a rabbit will enjoy staying in one room. Ferrets are adorable and VERY active, they do tend to smell and poop a lot. For these reasons, we preferred the rat.

First find out how much it will cost to house and feed before you buy anything. Exotic pets have exotic diets and they are the animals that cost the most to keep. Animal shelters can't cope with what's coming in now, think before you act.

how about a tartantula? they are VERY easy to take care of, if you get a "beginner" one. try and find a chilean rosehair, they are usually under $40, depending on your region(i actually found a pet store in MO that sold them for $10). you only have to clean their cage once or twice a year, and they eat crickets once a week, more or less, depending on their appetite. very easy. :-)
