First of all, I'd stay clear of the National League if I could. Those guys don't translate well coming across to the AL. But to answer your question, I am fielding a team with players who will perform consistently, and win (I assume that's what an owner should do, when cost is no object?):
Rotation:
Barry Zito
Johan Santana
Roy Halladay
Curt Schilling
Jason Schmidt
(Again, guys have to have their head on straight, pitch dominantly in big games and make the opponent feel they have to pull off a miracle to win)
Closer
Mariano Rivera (any other choice is simply stupid)
1B David Ortiz (he is the new Barry Bonds)
2B Robinson Cano (fearless)
SS Derek Jeter (no other shortstop has won like the Captain)
3B Alex Rodriguez
(is there another 3B you'd put at the plate w/ the game on the line?)
LF Manny Ramirez (Mr. Cool, instant offense)
CF Torii Hunter (the greatest pitcher saver of all time)
RF Ichiro Suzuki (not everyone in this line up needs to go yard)
C Ivan Rodriguez (knows the game, one for the ages)
Guys that could easily field the rest of this roster:
1B Jason Giambi/Albert Pujols
2B Brian Roberts
SS Miguel Tejada
3B Aramis Ramirez
LF Hideki Matsui/Barry Bonds (you need that big stick to win it with one swing)
CF Andruw Jones
RF Vladimir Guerrero/Gary Sheffield (again, you need a one swing guy when the game's on the line)
C Jorge Posada (experience means everything)
P
Mike Mussina
Randy Johnson
Roger Clemens
(because experience in big games goes a LONG WAY)
Notice the absence of recent 'wonders' who haven't really pitched in big situations well, or over the long haul at a high level. If I'm putting a team together for a ring THIS YEAR, these are the guys I go to the park with.

Age might want to really be a huge aspect yet i'd possibly rank them like this... a million. The Cy youthful Starter (i fairly hate human beings that say starting up pitchers are puffed up because they don't seem to be on the field ordinary. properly wager what? the placement gamers are on the field ordinary to what? Get a million hit in 3 at bats? The contribution of a ace starting up pitcher each and every 5 days is larger than a suitable participant ordinary) 2. The quick CF (it is close between him and the SS yet to have a OBP of .four hundred on the proper slot is mandatory. There are some mashers that would not actually have that severe of an OBP. Plus 50 steals and purely 25 whiffs? I recommend 25 whiffs! Ryan Howard can try this for the period of a week! With that form of speed, that form of OBP, and the very certainty this guy almost continually places the ball in play, the ordinary might want to also be more effective. Plus Gold Glover) 3. Shortstop (those numbers are not particular yet i experience further and extra than administration is mandatory in this era of baseball with the media being most of the clubhouse) 4. ability hitting 1B (those are sturdy numbers yet it truly is numerous strikeouts. And 40 homers now might want to be no longer even league chief chief sort numbers) 5. closer (50 Ks to me is unacceptable. Plus he's a closer. There are new closers for numerous communities each and every season. i don't think of i can construct a crew round a guy who contributes so little)
