Time, frustration and boredom will end the war on terrorism.
Forgetting about it is the only possible end. The war on terrorism is like the forgotten war on drugs. You can never win as long as one person knows what the word terrorism means it can be committed. If you killed everyone who knew what it meant it would still be done again at some point they would just need a new name for it. When America remembered that when we get in war our solders die was the first step toward frustration. Iraq has done more to finish the war on terrorism then anything else. It has caused much frustration. Storms and scandals as well as reality TV will take care of the getting bored with it. As for time it will take care of it's self. Time is good like that.
Drugs are the same way as long as 1 person wants them and 1 person knows how to make them they are there and will make a comeback.
As a side note the funniest part of the war on terrorism. Our founding fathers were terrorists. Look in any history book about the American Revolution. Lots of terrorism leading up to the fighting. We did not beat the British army we made it costly, painful, and embarrassing enough that they let us go. Why do you think the right to bear arms was so important to our founding fathers? They were terrorists who did not trust governments. Now the government that came from them has declared a war on terrorism, the sweet sweet irony.

"The present strategy is increasing terrorists exponentially and generating hate against America at even faster rate... does that make the world better or worse?"
I wonder how American people's brain is made, not to understand such an evidence. A 5 old child would understand it...
How US will live when 95% of the planet will hate them ?

Why terrorism? is a question which need be answered before enquiring into whether the US is doing a good thing by fighting against it in the manner it does. Whether the US style of handling terrorism is self-defeating?
Should terrorism be used as a tool for foreign policy? Is terrorism is at the root of Pan-Islamism or its outcome ? Has Osama-bin-Laden redefined the term such as , 'Sovereignty', 'International Community', etc. etc. To what extent Quran, a religious scripture is justified by uniting the whole mankind under one faith called Islam and looking at the rest of mankind as 'Kafir' and urge the Muslims to annihilate the Kafirs so as to please Allah and get a place in the promised Noor and live a life of splendour amidst 'Hoories'? If this is justified, US policy in exercise of their right to self-preservation with their faith other than Islam is also justified. As you suspect that in the name of fighting with terrorism the USA has a game-plan to kill one billion Muslims in the world, the so called Crusaders are also apprehensive of Islamic dominance which had happened in Europe and North Africa before 1095 whose memory is still hunting the Christians of the world.
It is high time to separate faith from politics, and specially protect the community from fundamentalists and their leaders. We must learn to tolerate others opinion about anything which may not conform to our views on those things. We must develop an open mind not conditioned by opinionated faiths based on heresays. Let us also see the mankind as a whole and not as separate groups because of religious, cultural, racial, linguistic, ethnic and colour differences. The present conflict can be compared with the phases 1095-1099 AD; 1147-1149 AD;1189-1192 AD and 1201-1204 AD in the World History. Think of a situation when Osama like person and Sadam like persons inspired by Quran are armed with nuclear weapons, what will happen to the mankind? No countries however united they are can prevent the mankind from a possible nuclear holocaust!

the war on terror was started because of 9/11. many will say it was something else. i don't believe our actions are increasing terrorists' numbers, they are being forced to show themselves. the hate of America was and is there. most of the world dislikes the U.S. and has for over 50 years. you cant kill a billion Muslims because they don't agree with us....true. you can kill a billion if they are trying to kill us. no one wants to keep them under their thumb but we need to keep them from killing us and our family's. our actions wont make the world a better place but it will keep the united states and our allies safe for awhile. the Muslims are following a world wide agenda of dominance. it is happening in all parts of the world. now is the time to stop it. we cant deny that 450 Americans were kidnapped and held in Iran for a year, 250 marines were bombed in Beirut, the USS Cole was bombed, the world trade center was bombed in 96, and again in 2000. the Muslims are not trying to get our attention....they are trying to kill us. the threat must be dealt with. the sooner the better. now is a good time.

who said anything about killing a billion Muslims?
let's remember for a minute it's not just the American war on terror. India, Spain, Singapore, England...all these countries were attacked by Islamic hardliners. can al Qaeda kill 2 billion Christians? can they kill every Jew in Israel? look at the crisis in Sudan, look at Somalia. and tell me this is just an American thing.
America does have friendly relations with some Arab countries. and we get along with them just fine. our problem is with countries that allow al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, and other groups to flourish.
and as for who started this in the first place, news flash: it wasn't us. the UN put Israel into the middle east, not America. Russia invaded countries like Afghanistan, and America fought Russia to leave them alone.
so at this point, what are we to do? if we stopped the fighting and came home right now, do you really think the war would be over? what war was there in August of 2001?

some strange solutions. previous canines, you're incorrect on multiple of your factors. The West were waging conflict on the middle East for hundreds of years. Do you no expertise of heritage? Edward M is sweet! And the position do you get the figure of 15% from? you purely plucked it out of the air in an attempt to sound as in case you recognize what you're talking about! because some Muslims are in charge for some terrorist acts you try in charge ALL Muslims. Pathetic! I spent a even as i Sri Lanka. that is properly generic there that some Buddhist clergymen carry out political assassinations. Are we now to assert that all and sundry Buddhists are murderers? Christian communities were in charge for awful crimes yet can we are saying ALL Christians are terrorists or murderers? for sure no longer. This Q is purely a crude attempt force a wedge between human beings. Utter nonsense! team spirit IS power !!!

Its not about world peace at all. Its about revenge and protecting America's self interests. The US doesn't give hoot about what the rest of the world thinks. They are not friends now and never have been. America knows you will attack no matter what. Use whatever excuse you want. Whining about our motives and world peace that you have no interest in anyway will get you nothing from America. Terrorist sympathizer and religious fanatics are all the same to me.

The American Government is evil. It's a real shame that there isn't enough awaken Americans out there to stand up for them self's and say no. The government is established to serve the people not rule them with fear. They are fighting a battle that they can't win. For truth shale prevail, for the Universe destroys falsity.

Very good question. The problem is that you are assuming that half of humanity is being alienated and another quarter is suspicious.
That is not the case. The truth is that the only ones that are being alienated by this war are terrorists, terrorist supporters, terrorist sympathizers, and those that are being lied to by them.
Which one are you?
