It's a wounderful, bueatiful, natural, thing to do. I mean it helps it so that later in life u don't get cancer. women do use coverups like blankets and such. it gives baby and mother more bonding, which also makes them healthier.less chance of alergies, asthma WHICH I have, they also have a better iq,easier to digest, made especally for baby (which mine was preemie) made specially for my preemie, the baby is less likly 2 be obecee, tooth and jaw development. plus it also helps the mother lose weight quicker. I'M NOT BASHING FORMULA FEEDERS! KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN YOU READ/ANSWER THIS QUESTION!

Women sometimes think that breastfeeding will make them flabby - no it didn't for me through both children for over a year each. Men sometimes are jealous about it - men, be supportive as this is extremely healthy for both mom and baby in many ways. You can get breast cancer anyway, but it lowers the odds tremendously. I am for breastfeeding if at all possible, but I do know several women in which the situation was impossible (inverted nipples for one thing). Never assume that people are against breastfeeding if they aren't doing so - it could be beyond their control... or they may not like it after all. That is up to them. It is best to try before saying no to it though. Best wishes!
ps - my grandson is breastfed - 15 months old and being weaned now - but he had to be put into daycare and he then developed lung problems as another child there had contracted and passed along a bad respiratory virus. My grandchild had to be put on a nebulizer 3 times daily for 5 months to combat it, but the doctor did say it would have been much worse had he not been breastfed (some children die from that virus or have it for a few years or get longer damage).

ITA that nursing is probably the best way to go healthwise, but I think the problem some ppl have with it is when women choose to do it in public without any concern for others. A LOT of ppl don't view it as a "beautiful" thing. A boob is a boob is a boob. If you can't take your top off in public any other time of the year, why is it all of a sudden different now? It's not a big deal to excuse yourself to a more secluded area or use a blanket for modesty. Honestly, the day my breast becomes only a malt shoppe and not a breast anymore is the day I retire from being a woman.

"Everyone" isn't having a problem. When I breastfed at an outdoor museum once, this old guy said, "Alright! Breast is best!" Anyhow...
Some people do have issues. These are the same people I suspect of downloading kiddie porn on Saturday night and going to an evangelical, purpose-driven church the next morning. Americans are very confused about nudity. You keep rocking. You're doing a wonderful thing for your baby.
There's also a generational-related issue. My mother had kids in the '60s and '70s, In the 60s, formula feeding was still encouraged by the middle- and upper classes. Those who couldn't afford formula breastfed. So many women my mothers age subtlely tried to discourage me, but once I realized they were either ignorant or guilty for never having breastfed, I could filter out the noise.

Listen honey, I breastfed and formula fed. I breastfed in public respectfully covered. I use the same holding techniques to nurse my baby on the bottle. Our bond is no lesser than when she was breastfed. I think spills like these are self-righteous, and make ALL you damn Nipple Nazis look bad. Maybe you should just do what you do, and leave the rest of the other mothers alone to do what they do. It's too easy. Mind your own business. FYI, I was bottlfed, and not ONE allergy do I have. I am 5'11 and weigh 134 lbs soaking wet. My teeth are perfect, not even one cavity at age 26. So, give it a rest already. You are no better than my formula feeding from the start neighbor or cousin. Just feed the baby something. Gosh.

my son is exclusively breastfed and at 5 months he has had no illness, diaper rash, ear infection, or allergy. i can feed him without any preparation, we are very well bonded. i am so glad i made the decision to feed him this way. more people should use the boobs they were given for there intended purpose. i understand when moms just cant do it, but it truly is the best thing for baby. I'm so glad to hear when other people support it. there are about 50% of moms out there who intend to breast feed and maybe 30% succeed to the 6 month mark. the academy of pediatrics in California says to go 1 year. of the 30% successful breast feeders, only half will make it to the 1 year mark. everyday you breastfeed your baby will be healthier for it. if you aren't able to go the whole year or 6 months or 3 months, whatever, you should do it as long as you can. your baby will be healthier for it. also it helps mom lose the baby weight, reduces risk of cancers and promotes post birth healing. thank you for your posting. people need to have respect for us moms just trying to do whats right for baby. we don't want anyone to see our boob any more than the breastfeed-aphobes want to see it. if they would kindly turn there heads, a baby needs to eat.

Look I don't go to church but the hilarious thing is that most of those that say these things are supposedly "CHRISTIANS" I was BASHED big time for breastfeeding and I say as follows:
So you are supposedly a christian right (humph, well of course I am) and you believe God created us right (humph, of course he did) oh OK then why exactly do you think he made milk come out of women's breast's instead of throwing us a can and opener.
JUST THINK ABOUT IT.
I started bottle when babies started biting so not against bottle either only against these hypocrites

People have been conditioned to think formula is the "right" answer without consideration to the fact that babies have been breastfed since the beginning of time. Most people do what their parents did without really considering the other options. Nevertheless, there really is no reason for there to be this division among mothers. I guess it's true that people just want a reason to fight and disagree.

If you look at the answers, I think you will see that a majority of the respondents in the opposition are either not mothers or they are guys.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. Everyone should do what they feel is right. If breastfeeding is the right thing for you, then go for it. I did, and I don't regret a single moment of it.

i did not imagine it replaced into as huge of fuss as human beings made it out to be... I actual both had it truly fortunate or that is something it is not any longer that undesirable. do not psych your self out, once you're making it by exertions (no longer to prepare being pregnant) it is going to look like a breeze in evaluation. moms were doing it for hundreds of years and the benefits are worth it so although in case you do run right into a roadblock save attempting! Your infant will celebrate with it and there is a lot of help in case you want it! in case you make certain to breastfeed a lactation representative at your well being facility the position you furnish will be there that could assist you correct off the bat. i replaced into truly worried besides and they actually will prepare you step by step what to do and verify on you very nearly hourly to verify you've a good adventure!!!! solid success and CONGRATS!

I am currently breastfeeding my 6 month old daughter. It is truly the best for your baby and numerous studies have proven this.
At first, I was extremely shy and uncomfortable. At this point, I focus on my baby and her needs, and I do not pay attention as to whether or not I have offended someone.
