Well first off I think there illegal in most states unless you have a permit to have exotic animals. Check your states laws and see what you need to have to get one. Secondly monkeys live for a very long time, some 70+ years so its a big commitment. I have seen one for sale on craigslist.org before it was a spider monkey and they where selling it for $400 Not sure how they are for pets either might be good to research this subject for a while before you get one as it well require a little more attention then a goldfish! Good luck!

Do some research on monkeys as pets. Do you think it's fair to cage an animal that belongs in the wild who is happiest in the trees? Please rethink this. Then there are the bite issues, and responsibility if the monkey gets loose, vet bills, etc.

first ,i was going to get one,a spider monkey,,,,check with your local laws to see if it is legal. plus the one i was going to get would take about $300.00 dollars a month in vet checks. and an additional $100.00 or so on fresh fruits. How are you going to house it. The one I was getting stayed in a cage about 5x5 wide and 6ft tall... i was told to have nothing around it, because it was messy, it could throw things up to 15 ft away from the cage...his best thing to throw was poo...it is a very big challenge. and if it was in a bad mood it would bite...the guy that was selling was a Nurse, and he had mulitpal bites, and against hospital reg...he had to rid of it. he also told me if a female is on her period, it will shoot semen at them...after all he told me i had to do...i decided it wasn't for me....really check into it. call your local zoo and ask about the care...you'll get great info....
plus few vets are qulified in taking care of exotic pets...if somethigng happened they are so simuliar to humans, he may not be able to get the proper care...do your homework....

it wont be fair for an undomesticated animal to live locked up in a cage. it wont be fair for you to have to deal with an extremely needy animal and have to put a great deal of effort into it, not to mention the cost. just get a freakin dog.
