You can teach an old dog a new trick. The dog first of all has to know who is in charge. Once that boundary is set then you start doing positive reinforcements. Clicker training works really well and you can purchase a clicker at any pet store along with a training manual. German Shepard's are very smart and learn easily mainly because they are eager to please and they love praise. I work at an animal shelter and the police adopt most of our Shepard's and train them to be police dogs. Most of these dogs are adults. I will tell you though as a word of warning, these dogs can also become aggressive if abused or mistreated. I would look in my phone book and sign up for some dog training classes. The classes are not expensive and it would benefit you both. Your shepard will love it because it will give them a chance to show off a little. Good Luck!

German Shepherds easily trained, WHEN they are puppies. And i'm not talking a dog that is already 2 years of age. The time to start training for an obedient dog is 8 weeks. At that age you should start using basic commands like "sit", "stay", "down", "stand". However, since your dog is already two years old, I HIGHLY recommend a formal trainer. You should look for local Dog Obedience Classes. They will cost you some money, but so far, they are the only way I know that you can really train a dog that is already that old. Good luck. it has been left a litttle bit late my dog has sheperd in her and she is as dumb and dopey as they come because we got her to late and nobody trained her it will take alot of perserveering but they are very smart dogs
