How difficult is it? Is there a lot of work involved? Are the benefits great? I'm thinking about applying for it at a local community college but I'm not sure...

In my opinion,as I'm teaching at university level,a lot of work is involved. Not only the teaching assignments but also the research work. When you are entered in the field,to go ahead you need further qualification & professional training to cope up with the demands. If you think you are qualified enough, you are wrong. All this additional effort to excel goes hand in hand with your regular teaching work-load.So if you are mentally, physically & financially ready to all this, join the profession.

As far as benefits are concerned, you get financial +social +psychological benefits if you are commited to your work (instead of just being interested in money matters).

It depends on what you would be teaching?? I taught for quite a while at a variety of places. It is not particularly glamorous and it usually doesn't pay that well. Do you have a doctorate? If so, that makes some difference. If you were to obtain a tenured position you would have it better than a non-tenured staff member. As to your question about is there much work involved, that would be a yes. You have to make up tests, grade papers, essays, term papers, you also have to have office hours and attend staff meetings. Also, if you have attended any college or university recently, you know that the kids can be a handful too, but mostly just lazy about doing their work.

I would imagine very, very busy! A teacher has loads to do so I am sure a professor would probably have more administrative work to take on besides teaching. He would also be expected to give lectures too. Depends on his given position.
