One of my tetras looks noticeably pregnant (or just fat) and has been this way for a month or so.

Fish don't get pregnant they lay eggs. They are carrying eggs and ready to lay them to be fertilized. The only fish that get pregnant are whales, dolphins, sharks and porposes but they are mammels.
Go to your closest pet store and get a book on the type of fish you have.

definatley more than a month. youre fish is possible its pregnant. when she lays her eggs turn of the filter otherwise the eggs will be sucked up in the filter. also, put some real plants in so she can have somewhere to stick the eggs. if the male partner is there if shes pregnant he will make a bubble nest for her laying the eggs. he will gaurd the nest until she lays her eggs. it is important not to destroy the nest, and to not change the water.
