almost no women at all can were pure red lipstick. certainly not darker-skinned women. if anyone can, it's you, so if you don't like the way you look in it, that tends to prove my point. wear burgundies, and other colors which have some brown in them.

Reds are hard to pull off, so you first want to make sure you have a lip liner on. The best reds are matte finish.
They have the good color but don't look to bright, more classy.
What looks great for eye makeup then is a soft black eyepencil and some cream shadow with a little shimmer.
Curled eye lashes and some black mascara.
Keep your cheeks light with the red lipstick, only a tiny bit of blush way up high on your cheek bones from the hairline down, but not to far down.

If you think you look clownish work up to the lipstick, try a red-tinted gloss. This will give you the red color, but sheer and shiny, not matte. It will look less dramatic and harsh. Depending on the color of your eyes, keep it simple. No more than neutral eyeliner and some mascara. This can be a great look, but like you said, you can over do it, so all in moderation.

Try a sheer red lip stain or gloss (Vincent Longo Lip & Cheek Gel Stain is great!!) Bright red lipSTICK is tough to pull off. You may also be using the wrong color of red...if you have cool undertones, use a blue-red, and if you have warm undertones, use an orange-red.

Any time your lips are this attention-getting, eye makeup should be minimal, think champagne or taupe shadow and mascara, possibly a little bit of black liquid liner if it is a very thin line just at the base of the lashes.

Yes you could paint your lips BRIGHT RED and then lots of lipgloss you wont look clownish cos clowns dont wear lipgloss!Light skin can be covered with very thick foundation and powder.
Not sure about your eyes but Thick black eyeliner and false eyelashes look good. Maybe bright blue eyeshadow to match your lips.
To balance this effect LOTS of blusher. You will look VERY pretty!

i had the same problem i would love them way it looked on others and i wanted that lok but didnt work for me finally i got a glossy red lipgloss from avon and i got a lot of compliments on that i think brown eye colors are the best to wear with red lipstick
also i found some wine lipstick colors that arent so red but are still close and i got compliments on those
i dont think you being light skinned matters i think reds look batter on pale skin

Red lipstick is hard to pull off. Make sure you are on the pale side and have dark hair and eyes. I would suggest some dark eyeliner and black mascara so that your eyes POP out at people, just like your lips.

red satin/matte with dark eyes and a nice touch of not overdone pink blusher.. somehow i think this looks is much suitable if yr wearing an oriental or cheongsam wear. it looks very exotic in my opinion.
