Hippopoto- is claimed to mean "big" due to its allusion to the Greek-derived word hippopotamus (though this is derived as hippo- "horse" compounded with potamos "river", so originally meaning "river horse").
-monstr- is from Latin words meaning "monstrous".
-o- is a Greek noun-compounding vowel (whose presence might seem anomalous between two Latin elements, except that neologisms, including respectable ones from ISV, do sometimes mix Greek and Latin roots).
-sesquippedali- is a misspelt and mistaken form taken from "sesquipedalian" (meaning a long word, literally "a foot and a half long" in Latin).
-o- is a Greek noun-compounding vowel (whose presence is highly anomalous after another vowel here).

I am so glad you asked this question. I had learned this word years ago and no one else I had ever mentioned it to had heard of it. They all thought I was just being funny. After all these years I was just thinking about it the other day and trying to remember how to spell it, while wondering if it was for real. So thank you for answering my question. That is just so cool.

That makes no sense at all. They shouldn't make people who have that phobia, the fear of long words (Hippopotomonstrosesquippedalio) have to say it when they're asked. That's just cruel. Anyway, I don't have much to say about this.
