1. Let justice be done though the heavens fall!

2. My country, right or wrong!

3. The greatest good for the greatest number!

Say if you agree with just one, or two, or all, or none.

Do you see any problems with agreeing with all three?

I used to say 3. Now I'm not so sure. What I'm sure of is, any intellectually responsible person must choose only one (if any). There may be situations where all three standards can be satisfied, but there are also bound to be circumstances where they conflict, and when the chips are down, you have to know what you really believe in.

Well, I definitely do not agree with number 2. That comes from a sense of tribalism which must give way to universal brotherhood. I suppose I agree with number 3, because I believe in the greatest good for all. Number 1, I dont think it is a matter of agreeing with or not--in a world where the law of consequence and rebirth is in effect, justice will be done and life is perfectly fair. But the heavens wont fall. So I guess the only one I really believe in is number 3.

You can't possibly agree with all three.
If you agree with number three, then what happens if #2 opposes #3 by doing good for few. #1 is hard to agree with as well because Justice, like beauty, is often in the eye of the beholder.
The Hezbollah believe they are seeking justice. The Israelis do not see it this way.
Hitler did the greatest good for the greatest number within his country, and many of his followers followed my country right or wrong, but what he was doing was absolutely unjust and immoral.

I believe justice should be done, but we have to have an open mind on what justice is. I believe we should have national pride, but also admit the problems/prejudices of the country/nationality we being to. I believe in the greatest good for the greatest number, but it is difficult, because there are times (in the infamous words of Star Treks Captain Kirk) the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many. Just as there are times the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one. Each situation is unique.

The problem with agreeing with any is that each is shortsighted. MY justice, MY country, My idea of good. These are reasons wars are fought and the reasons countries are founded. When it comes down to it, I would agree with number two because I am an American. With all of MY country's problems and policies I do not always agree with I am thankful each day that I have the privilege of living in this country.

Just one
And it's not possible to agree with all three because "right or wrong" implies that loyalty to one's country takes a higher priority to justice. And the third slogan places what benefits the most people as more important than justice.
So only number one would work

Number three only.
there is no heaven or justice from haven, so can't agree with it.
and its my country only if it is right. and still my country when it is wrong, but don't wanna boast about it, if thats how it means.
we cannot make happy everybody by any single rule. so obviously the greatest good for the greatest number.

i think each slogan has a situation where it is applicable but that does not mean that it is always the right option ..sometimes we make decisions because they are the less harm from the most harmful ... even when it comes to justice which seems the high moral.. sometimes it conflicts with mercy and have to be reconsidered!
