A first degree burn is like a superficial sunburn, although everyone thinks that you should apply lotion, butter, mustard, etc - don't! Take a cool (not cold) shower or bath and then do nothing else! If you have slight blisters, then you have a second degree burn - it is basically treated the same way. For second and third degree burns (they do not always put you in the hospital, it just depends on the % of body that is burned), run cool (not cold!) water over the burn for 10 minutes (no more) and do not put any lotions or anything on them! Do NOT pop the blisters as this makes you more likely to get an infection. If the blisters pop and the skin underneath looks raw (bloody, meaty, bright red looking) and not healed add antibiotic ointment twice a day (every 12 hours) for six to ten days. It should be fine. With any burn, if a large portion of the body is burned then you need to seek medical attention immediately!

the most important thing for all 3 is to STOP THE BURNING PROCESS. 1st degree...run it under cool water and that should work. 1st degree will only be on the surface. 2nd degree...run under cool water and cover with sterile dressing. 2nd degree burns involve some of the other layers of skin and depending on how big of a burn may need antibiotics to prevent infection. 3rd degree burns are BAD...they have actually killed several layers of skin and possibly muscle underneath. Cover with wet sterile dressing and get to the ER right away!!

Soak yourself with vinegar to cool down the first degree burns, as for 2nd and 3rd, I personally don't think you would feel like writing on here, youd be in the hospital in pain my friend. But as for 1st degree Aloe Vera straight from a plant works Wonders!!

First degree burns can be treated at home with things like ice, cold water, or burn ointments/sprays. Second degree burns can cause redness, can blister and need to be seen by doctor for treatment. Third degree burns can cause death due to things like shock, how much of a percentage the body was burned, and infection, so this type is an emergency.

If you have 2nd or 3rd degree burns you need to get to the hospital right away, burn injury's can be some of the worst that you can get. the skin regulates the temperature in your body and if you have a lot of skin burned off you can die because you loss water and are unable to regulate you temperature. Also infection from a burn can lead to serious complication.

first degree: apply cold water running water to the burn. treat it like you would a very bad sunburn.

seek medical attention (the hospital) for second (as they are extremly painful) and third (which can kill you and cause severe damage)
