Yes! Take note, "CLASSICAL GUITARISTS" ...those who are in the "classical genre" or in other words those musicians who play "classical guitar music".

Gees, could you have posted this when I wasn't JUSt about to hit the sack? Well, me, but then, hey - I'm a professional classical guitarist.
There are a lot worth hearing. One of the most amazing of all is Stepan Rak. David Tannenbaum is overall one of my favorites. We cannot forget Julian Bream, such a musician. My own teacher, John Holmquist, has such a lovely sense of line. There is also Manuel Barrueco and David Russell - so many fine players. Segovia, of course, shines above all else. But check out Rak!! He's simply impossibly amazing!
Oh yes, and Eliot Fisk, also impossibly amazing.
HEY DID YOU READ MY ANSWER ? gees more ROCK guitarists named here? Even after I reposted the below info? Lord people are daft.

Andres Segovia, no question. Who said Hendrix and Clapton - take away 10 points just for those answers. I've never heard them take on classical, they were blues and rock. If you want a comtemporary rock guitarist who incorporated classical, look no further than Eddie Van Halen.

Segovia had such a fluid style - he didn't just play, he interpreted. Listen to the sample of Sarabanda on Amazon or any music engine like Yahoo.

Steve Vai -

He was with whitesnake at one time and didn't quite come out his shell like he did in his solo career....
He is amazing....When he was with whitesnake he was 'ok' but now that he is solo.... he works wonders with the strings. His Passion and Warfare CD is his best in my opinion.....
