if you get a tan... is it true it will go away in winter?

They are ALL lying to you!
A tan NEVER goes away! If you get ONE, it stays FOREVER! If you get another, it makes it darker... and another... darker still... eventually, you turn black. Where do you think black people come from? Everyone starts out white and ends up black... or red... or olive green... depends on home much they are expossed to the suns rays.
Good Question! Thanks for wasting my time!

You would get a tan if you weren't wearing winter clothes.
Sit out in the back yard this winter in your beach wear, two-three hours a day should be good (you wont freeze!)

Firstly, it depends on how tan you get. Secondly, tanning breaks down your cell molecules and can lead to cancer. My suggestion is to not tan purposly, apply a sunscreen and have beautiful skin when you are 50 rather than saggy and leathery skin.

I guess this depends on your skin type. I know during the summer time I get darker than I already am and it tends to lighten up during the fall and winter months.

Yes. A tan is only a temporary increase of melatonin in your skin.

It gradually fades from the time you get it. As your top layer of skin sloughs off (every time you exfoliate) you lighten up--unless you continuously tan.
