I have a friend that lives in Japan. We write letters back and forth, but it would be so nice (and easier) if we could just email each other. However, I've tried sending her emails. She knows my email address and has sent me an email that says she simply cannot receive any of my emails. Yet, I receive hers just fine. Do any of you know how we can fix this problem? Is it something on her end or mine? It would be SO MUCH easier if we could email each other instead of having to wait for the regular mail. I would REALLY appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks for taking my question seriously. Your replies have been very helpful so far. Here is more info.....I am using Bellsouth for my email and the emails that I have received from her have been @ezweb.ne.jp
My emails don't come back to me....she gets them, she just cannot open them or read them. (?) I'll check into your advice that you've given me so far. Thanks so much.

♡If she isn't getting YOUR e-mail, you should know because it will be returned to you as 'Undeliverable Mail', this even appears on my cell phone. Do you get those kind of return mail messages? You should or the mail should bounce back as undeliverable. I live in Japan and use a popular server here in Japan, as well as Yahoo AND Docomo cell phone e-mail. I have never had that problem on any of the accounts and all my family and friends in the US constantly e-mail me. If you are receiving her mail, then perhaps she's having a problem getting yours for some reason. (Or maybe she just likes to get snail mail?) Someone else suggested you try and reply to her mail, it should go through. Perhaps a few more details may help solve the problem...
Hmmm, interesting. I hope this helps. Good luck, ~keeping in touch is important!
Please note: NOT ALL e-mail addresses in Japan have 'jp' in them, many of my friends use '@nifty.com' here in Japan too.

If she's not getting the messages at all, she probably needs to call her cell phone company (she's with "AU") and tell them she wants to accept emails from computer addresses (sometimes cell phones are only set up to accept from other cell phones).
But from your second post, it sounds like she does get the email, but her cell phone cannot display the message. If that's the case, it's probably because your email is in HTML format. That means it has computer code embedded in it so that you can do things like put characters in italics or color. Most Japanese cell phones can't display HTML formatted messages. You need to send emails in plain text format. I don't know much about Bellsouth, but with Yahoo email, there's an option to change between the two formats. Check your email settings and see if you can change to plain text.

I think the email provider she uses refuses your emails as spam because your emails are written only in English.
Try to send her an email written in hiragana and kanji.

if her address ends with
@vodafone.ne.jp
@docomo.ne.jp
@ezweb.ne.jp
something like this, maybe she need to check her settings.
or ask her create new email address, Yahoo mail, Hotmail or something.
If your email contain any advertisment, her system may refuse or handle as SPAM.
Send email with simple text mail. don't use HTML mail.
anyway, less info. I don't know what kind of email are you 2 using.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
@ezweb.ne.jp is a address of her mobile phone.
Call her or write her, and let her check whether her mobile has any reject settings from internet. or ask her to use emaill address from PC. like Yahoo or Hotmail.

It may sound stupid, but have you tried REPLYING to one of her emails to see if it would go through? It doesn't make sense that she wouldn't get it.

MAybe when you save her address in your addressbook, you save it as .com.jp but in japan, it is .co.jp, just like UK, so make sure your address after @ is right. Took me sometime when i first realize that not all of them is .com.
