You have asked two questions.

For your first question there is a setting and for second question I don't think you could delete history by single key.

Answer to your first question:
Sign In Yahoo Messenger
Click on Messenger Tab (top above )
Then Click on Preference
Then Click on Archive
Follow instructions
Click Ok and leave
Or
Click on Contacts Tab (top above )
Then Click on Message Archive
Then Click on Message
Then Click on Preference
Under Category choose Archive
Then Follow the instructions.
Press OK and leave

For your second question:
Click on Contacts Tab (top above )
Then Click on Message Archive
Select item to be deleted.

For the first time you delete items one by one and then set the Message Archive setting as as answered in question one and save. Next time you won't need to delete item one by one.

if you mean yahoo messenger do this:
click the word (Messenger) in the up left choose (Preferences) then (Archive) then select the option (No, do not save any of my messages then hit apply,
and if you mean another history then you can use a software to do it for you like Tracks Eraser Pro ... you can download it from here:
