there is only one person higher than khan in my book and that is Cesar but it's a close one. khan didn't come to power till he was in his 50's. plus he had more land in his empire than Alexander the great did and he was twice his age. you've herd the old saying that history is written by the victors. not the case in of khan he was just written off as being blood thirsty. by his enemy's but that is far from the truth. khan gave all his subjects the same rights as the Mongolians. and gave full religious freedom to all . and he never treated captured soldiers the way the enemy did his like dragging them behind horses. boiled them alive in oil. even skinned them alive. he never drew and quartered Any one like the English did William Wallace or Crucifixion like the Romans so who's the barbarian here ?

Genghis Khan was an extradinary figure. The largest empire in human history was the British Empire that encompassed a quarter of the earth's surface, however this was the result of centuries of conquest and colonisation, Genghis Khan created through his vision an imperial juggernaut out of a feuding and divided people. His empire outsurpassed any before it and many after it and all done in his own lifetime. Definetly a great man despite his brutality, which can be seen a positive point (consider Machiaveli's "the Prince") However I would put him second on the man of the millenium list (Go Jesus wooooo!!!)

Ghengis Khan was an incredible warrior and leader and was very successful for quite a time. Do you really want to model yourself after someone that exhibited that type of brutality?
There are lots of great leaders in history and what does it matter if they were mongolian or not, it's the principles the man stood for and the character he showed when he lived by them that makes a great leader.

One of my heroes. But you have to put him in context of his times. To go from being a little boy - a prisoner - to absolute ruler of much of the world, and to do it through sheer ability, is quite impressive.
