hi i am interested in starting adult group home in knoxville,tn.can anyone tell me if home that small has to be licensed and how do i get started at this.i wanted to house about five six residents living in home. with nurse and nursing assistant in house 24 hours 7 days week,preparing meals, taking on outings,dr.appt.the residents i have in mind is mildely retarted,down syndrome adults.what is state and city requirements.

Contact the TN state department of health, for starters. In addition to getting residency permits for the dwelling and other government licenses, don't forget to get a lot of LIABILITY INSURANCE!! anything can happen to either the residents or the nurses/aides. Also contact your local department of social services to see what they might require and to see if any of your services might be reimbursed by them.
