I would like to start taking a daily vitamin, possibly one that is good for skin. I'm thinking of buying the women's daily vitamins by One A Day. I am an 18 yr. old female. What is best for me?

A basic multiviatmin with minerals is fine. One a day is fine or the generic for one a day. Centrum is fine. You just need an adult vitamin. If you want to spend more money you can go to a health food store and get a vitamin made specifically for women.

Vitamin A is good for the skin and you can take 1 tablet per day unless told otherwise by a doctor. However, Vitamin A stores up in your body and you can have a toxic reaction. Vitamin C gets used and the extra goes out as pee.

Beta carotin is good for the skin too. THE best is fresh vegatables that contain good amounts of these vitamins, they are the best for you, not tablets.

First of all... don't be fooled into buying those specified "Womens daily" or any others. They are the exact same as a multi vitamin. I recommend going to Dollar General in your area and purchasing their once daily multi vitamin. It will say "compare to Centrum Complete" on it. Its about $2.00 and the Centrum is $3.00 there. I have been using their store brand for quite a while for various items and my hair has grown significantly and it improves my skin. I just can't say enough good about Dollar General.

Most over the counter vitamins use synthetic forms of the nutrients; this means it's very hard for your body to even recognize the vitamin, much less process and absorb it. So it basically turns out to be a kind of pseudo-vitamin/placebo. There's a really great daily vitamin I've found that uses only whole food based vitamins and minerals so your body just soaks them up. Check out this link if you'd like, I've had great results:

Take Centrum Chewable Multi-Vitamin. When you take a chewable vitamin, you know it will be absorbed into your bloodstream. Good for you on caring about your health! BTW, a multi-vitamin will have everything your skin needs, except sunblock.

If you are 18 years old only, I suggest not to take any deitary supplements. You should get your nutrients from food. Please make sure you eat enough protein. Good sources of protein are
chicken, fish and eggs. And eat vegetables and fruits daily. In addition, take fish (body) oil and evening primrose. Your friends will surely notice the significant change in your skin complexion. (one capsule of fish oil should contains 180 gm of EPA and 120mg of DHA.) You face will be glowing.

Prenatal vitamins. They are awesome. i've been taking them since I was 16. Any woman in her reproductive years should always be taking a folic acid even if she's not pregnant, nursing or trying.
