Today my bunny passed away in my arms. He was fine up until today when I walked in to see him. He had his paws spread out straight and wouldn't move. I took him out of the cage, he still wouldn't move. I turned him on his back and then I knew he was dying as he made no attempt to turn himself over. His respirations were very rapid and then he passed. What do you think happened? I am heartbroken and feel ill

He was 3 years old..a big bunny with a heafty appetite. He was loose every other day (I alternated with my other bunny as Stewart was agressive lol) I am not sure of the breed as he was given to me and I only know certain breeds

Was he vacinated? If not it could have been a common illness.

How large was he. A huge killer of many animals is being overweight, our rabbit is on a diet as being overweight can put a huge stress on the heart and other organs.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Questions for you? How old was your bunny? An average life-span for a domestic rabbit is anywhere from 7 to 10 years (in perfect conditions; though this can vary greatly). It's also possible that some how your rabbit paralyzed itself; got it's leg caught or was very frightened. Pehaps it was in shock?

My rabbit had seemingly similiar symptoms and also passed away. Sometimes we just simply do not know the answers.

i'm owned with the aid of 5 bunnies. Johnny, a Mini-Rex; Elsie, a Californian; John Fred, a Netherland Dwarf; bear, a lop of a few form; and Dottie Ann, a "mutt." All are rescue bunnies so it took purely somewhat of time for them to bond with me. Dottie Ann remains exceedingly shy yet she sees the different bunnies getting petted and groomed with the aid of "that super 2-footed element" so she's commencing to come again around!

I think you can send his body in for testing ask your vet. Besides that I think it might help the pain to get another bunny and dont blame yourself because you sound like a very good bunny mom

I have a mini lop and every time he is out he is chewing on something. Rabitts' teeth are constantly growing and they look for things to chew on. May he swallowed something and you didn't see it and it got stuck in his digestive tract. My rabitt has chewed phone lines, chairs, cat food, plastic, trash bags, cat toys, balloons, mints, gum, dog treats.......so you never really know untill AFTER something happens

Well I don't know you never gave us what type of breed it was, what you feed him, how old he was, gender, and what his habitats were. Plus, do you take him out daily for him to excersize for at least an hour?

It sounds like he had broken his back. If they are startled in their cage (or anywhere, really) they can jump and break their spines. Sorry to hear about your loss :(
