Well, let's see...
What's good?
- You can find anything you want, about anything you want, whenever you want. Seriously, try describing Google to someone from thirty years ago. "Oh yeah... in the year 2006, there will be this thing where you can type anything you want into it, and you'll get the answer back in seconds!" They'd think you were insane.
- Anyone who wants to express their opinion is able to express it on here. Making a standard website is totally free, and you can make one instantly and start posting stuff up there that's important to you. Sure, advertising and getting the word out there might cost some money, but now all of a sudden we live in a world where anyone -- not just TV newscasters and authors -- can make themselves heard.
- You can meet a lot of great people on here. The Internet has done wonders for communication. Interested in aviation? There's a message board for you out there somewhere. Like sports? You'll find many chat rooms, each with loads of people that feel exactly the way you do.
- It allows you to find answers to the questions that maybe you're embarrassed to ask in real life, or just don't want to ask for whatever reason. And I'm not talking about only sex. Maybe you want to know where some saying originated, or why some tradition started, but you'd feel stupid asking one of your friends. Somewhere on the net, you'll find your answer.
What's bad?
- Anyone can post anything that they want. This is a good thing sometimes, but in many, many cases it's bad. Look at all the hate groups with websites out there. Granted, they totally have the right to exist on the Internet, but when they start discussing illegal activity, condoning violence and making racist remarks, then it starts getting out of hand. Plus, there's no penalty for misinformation. I've heard stories of some people posting phony Civil War websites with bogus accounts of the South winning. And then there's phony Holocaust sites where people claim it never really happened. To you and me, that's a lot of crap, but some eight-year-old kid could find that site and think it's true. That's the danger of being allowed to post whatever you want.
- Porn, obviously. Sex is a force like no other on the Internet. They have filters for little kids so they don't stumble onto an inappropriate page, but the filters can only do so much. AIM and Yahoo! chat rooms are filled with people describing in detail their disgusting fantasies. And then you have the problem of pedophiles seeking out underage kids, luring them into meeting a stranger that they met from a chat room.
- People can be pretty rude on here. If you disagree with someone, you don't hear, "Well, sorry, but I just don't feel the same way you do." No, you hear, "What the ****! You're a ****ing idiot for thinking that way." Look at this site, especially in the "religion" section. An atheist will tell a Christian he's full of crap, then the Christian will tell the atheist that he's going to burn for eternity, then the atheist will tell the Christian he's a mindless drone, then the Christian will tell the atheist he's an uneducated fool -- it's a neverending cycle of inconsiderateness. Plus, you also get 10-year-olds and 11-year-olds bossing everyone around and acting totally obnoxious, knowing that there's no consequence on here.
I can't think of anything else that's bad, but both advantages and disadvantages exist... and they're all equally important.

The Internet is a good thing. It provides a way for all kinds of information to be shared by people around the world. Now, some people may choose to use it for purposes that aren't good. It is not the Internet that is bad merely some people have bad intentions that they'd find a way to carry out regardless of whether there was the Internet. Some people might argue that the Internet is a bad thing because of the risk to children imposed by it. I feel though that it is up to the child's parents to properly monitor the content their children access on it. There are many programs to help people do this. Also, they need to teach there children proper on-line safety. It is also up to the government and law enforcement to find ways to prevent and punish people from doing illegal activities on the Internet. Like many other things the Internet can be used for good purposes or bad so it depends so it's left up to the people that use it to determine what way they intend to use it. -Kevin

Both- The Internet is the perfect place to gather vast amounts of information that can be potentially enlightening. On the other hand, people also use it to practice criminal activities, not to mention viruses, spam, spy ware, harassment, etc. It just depends on who you are and how you use it.

It really depends on how you use it. If you are using it to further your education or help others it is a good thing. If you are using it for porn or as a tool to find prey (like children) it is a bad thing.

To me it is both because the Internet is a good thing because it helps me with my homework all the time when I have a report to do in English and it is bad because I was on one of my friends accounts for this site that is supposed to be for kids and he was like gross and he started hitting on us. God only knows his real age but thanks to us he's not alound on that site anymore.

Both. It's good because of the ease of finding necessary information. But it's bad because it can be addicting and distracting.

Good thing even with a lack of reliable censorship. You can access volumes of knowledge and even have your questions answered by random people.

I think both of your arguments make it a potentially good thing.
