HOw do I get into safe mode on the computer. Having trouble with a friends com. When he gets to his desk top his icons are all folders and you can't open them.

Shut off your computer, start it back up and repeatedly tap F8. A menu should come up and use the keyboard to select "boot in Safe Mode". Be careful, you can really screw things up in Safe Mode if you don't know what you're doing.

To enter safe mode you must press the F8 key before Windows boots up. If you are running Windows XP you press F8 just before the windows XP load screen appears. For Windows 2000 you press it as the first progress bar loads (this is after the main BIOS screen). Hope this helps you out

Sounds like a file association or corruption problem.
But to get into safe mode I think you hit F8 on the reboot before you get to the splash screen.

a warm boot is ctl alt delete twice to rerstart. a cold boot is just turning your pc off. and to get in safe mode after rebooting keep hitting f5 or f8 one of the 2

After the Bios information comes up hit F7 and F8 keys (I foget which one, I think it's really the F7 key) until you get a menu that gives you the options.
