I'll be going to to Carowinds in North Carolina in a few weeks and I'd like to spend a day or 2 at the beach as well. I've done some searching online, but I can't seem to find any info to help me out. Doesn't matter if it's in North or South Carolina, just whatever beach is closest. Thanks in advance!

I searched states around North Carolina for the closest beach and found the closest one being East Beach in Seneca, SC on Hartwell Lake, just a short distance after Greenville, SC, shortly before entering the State of Georgia. It takes a little more than 2 hours and half to reach it from Carowinds. You get their by taking I-485 northwardly to get to I-85 on the eastern side of Charlotte. You then go west on I-85 toward Greenville and Atlanta. At Exit 19B you go northwest on Route US76 (also known as Route SC28) toward Clemson. When you reach Clemson, ask for directions to East Beach. It is less than three miles from Route US76.
Your second option is Folly Beach close to Charleston, SC. It take a little less than 3 hours and half to get to this one. You basically take I-77 south until you get to Columbia. From there, you turn southeast on I-26 to get to Charleston. At the end of I-26, you continue on Route US17, and just before crossing the Ashley River, you turn south to Route SC30 toward Folly Beach. After less than three miles, you turn to Route SC171 which should take you all the way to Folly Beach.
A third option which is, timewise, as far as Folly Beach is Garrison Shoals in Lula, GA. The way to this beach is the same as for East Beach (first option), except that you continue on I-85 until you enter the State of Georgia. You turn north at Exit 149 on Route US441 (also known as Route GA15). Just follow Route GA15, which seperates from US441 just three miles ahead. You continue on GA15 for a little more than three miles to reach Homer. From there, you turn west on Route GA51. After 8.5 miles, you will arrive at Garrison Shoals Drive which should take you to Garrison Shoals.

Carowinds is far, far from the beach. It is in the peidmont of NC, and NC is a large state going across. Odds are, if oyu want to spend a day or 2 at the beach, you would have to wake up really early to get there, and really early to get back.

Probably Myrtle Beach(SC), but it's about 3 hours past where you're going.
