The foundation you are using is either the wrong color for you, old, or not good quality.
Try another color that better matches your skin tone, or better yet I would go with a powder foundation. I use Bare Minerals, but if you cannot afford that Loreal has a new Mineral Powder foundation for around $12. Give that a try.
You know you can go to a department store and have them help you find a color that is right for you and not buy anything. Once you see what color is right on your skin, you can take that info and go buy a less expensive brand at the drug store.
Good luck! You are smart to get the make up right before you are in public! There is nothing worse than having lines from your foundation, it makes it look like you don't know what you are doing and should not be using make up.

You've got the wrong color for your skin tone. Your foundation is too warm. The right color will be barely visible on your skin and you shouldn't have to correct it with powder.
The best thing you can do is go to a makeup counter and they will help you select the right shade. If this isn't an option, try L'Oreal True Match foundation in a neutral shade.

You're probably using the wrong shade or it's old.
Go to any cosmetics counter like MAC or Bobbi Brown or Prescriptives, and get a consultation, so that you'll have an idea of the shade that will most suit your skin type and tone.
If you pay a little extra, you can actually get them to teach you how to apply your makeup. Once you are armed with all that information, you can buy the drugstore brands with confidence.

Dont use the cheap foundation they oxidize which causes the orange look..Powder will not change the color of the foundation so dont try it..Get a shade that has more blue undertones rather then red...

Wrong shade, cheap product, OR pH level. PH can really affect colors.
It also sounds like your skin is reacting to your foundation.
Try Mary Kay's foundation. A consultant can match you for free. You can try it and if it doesn't work out, it's 100% guaranteed. Visit www.marykay.com and use the consultant locator to find someone in your area.

Your wearing the wrong color, or a cheap brand. Look at the bottles when you buy them, you should look for colors that are more brown then tan. Try testers out
