Every wardrobe needs:
1. a good pair of black pants that you can wear to work and out at night
2. good, quality-knit sweaters in different colors (cashmere is best, but expensive...try wool-blends or cotton, if little money)
3. a good fitting, nice winter coat (this can be in a bold color, or neutral color, but make sure the fit is great)
4. Leather shoes (this goes for sandals in the summertime, as well as boots in the wintertime. If low on cash, opt for black, as it goes with EVERYTHING.)
5. Button down shirts - for work and elsewhere, you can layer your sweaters over them for nice business casual look
6. slim fit shirts - try to stay away from graphic tees and ones with messages; ones without wording will last longer in your wardrobe and will be easier to keep over time; again, cotton tees!)
7. a nice fitting pair of jeans (or two) - find a great fitting pair of jeans; stores like the Gap and Express have different styles and finishes. If you can afford two pairs, get a dark denim pair (bootcut), and a lighter denim (bootcut, as well). Boocut jeans have been in for years, and will continue to...they aren't as trendy as skinny jeans or flare jeans
8. a nice bold (leather, if you can afford it) bag - this can be in any color, and, if you can, opt for a big name or something reliable...

For all of these, try finding these items at stores like TJ Maxx, Filene's Basement, Loehmmans's, or Marshalls...that way, you're getting the same product for a better, cheaper price. Hope I've helped!

First thing to do is research. Buy some magazines and literally look at the pictures to find out what the basics, and what the must haves are.
Secondly, get an idea what exactly you want (i.e. a red clutch or red patent heels). This is important because when you're shopping it's so easy to get distracted, buy something you think you'll love, then never wear, and end up losing the money you could have spent on something else.
Finally, start looking at low price but fashionable stores and websites (website are preferred because there is more selection and a better chance of finding what you want). If you want designer at a lower price try www.planetlulu.com, www.bluefly.com, www.luvcharlie.com, or www.girlshop.com. If you don't care about name brands try www.forever21.com (they also have many stores in malls) or http://www.us.redoute.com/ .
Don't forget to stay within your budget. Buy pieces you can use over and over again, mix and match and that could last into fall or even winter.
A basic prep for fall wadrobe style 1) plaids, 2) princess jackets, 3) red anything, 4) dresses, 5) loose slacks, and 6) structured but large purses.
Good luck!

With very little money, your first stop should be a thrift store. You can buy things of quality and make at a thrift store that you would never in a million years be able to afford in a store. For instance, I bought a brown wool Saks Fifth Avenue winter coat with bone buttons and fur trim for $15, and I swear it has never been worn before, or maybe it was worn once. Would I own that if I had to pay retail? No way. When you're at a thrift store, you can also find clothes that no one else has, so if you are looking for unique wardrobe pieces, it's the best place to go.

When you're looking in a thrift store, remember that sizes have gotten larger over the years, and 14 in the 1960s is a 10 today. If something looks to be about your size and you like it, try it on! Don't buy things with stains, they were given to the store because the previous owner couldn't get them out. Likewise, don't buy things with missing buttons or that need alterations, unless you know that you'll fix them, otherwise it's just wasted money. Look for things like top stitching, nice details inside clothes like full linings or french seams, and good buttons to try and determine the quality of a piece, but if you love it, even if if it seems cheap, remember it's not a lot of money, and buying clothes you love is always worth it!

Happy shopping!

Go to a discount store like Ross or TJ Maxx where you can get brand name stuff for cheap. Don't worry about the brand, though, as much as the fit. Find a few colors that look good on you and build your wardrobe around basic things that you can combine into lots of outfits.

First know what color you feel best wearing. Then pick a coordinating color and a neutral. Then what ever you purchase make sure it has one of these three colors. Then what ever you purchase will be multi purpose. Like red, black and cream or royal blue, black and baby pink....
Any one can do sales and goodwill -- the point is to choose well and for versitility. A great wardrobe can have just 3 tops, 3 bottoms, a wonderful jacket, a simple dress and great accessories.

Try hitting some yard sales and Goodwill. I have found by accident that if you can find some Bazaars that are selling yard sell items for a good cause (i.e., humane society, etc.) then you will find some great deals. Example - went to Human Society Bazaar at a local church around 11:00 a.m. or so, they announced 4 clothes for $1.00 - came out like a bandit with some beautiful designer clothes, very cheap.

First off, NEVER ever ever pay full price for somthing, unless you absolutely have to have it!!

I shop and at Kohls and JC Penny and almost alwyas at the clearance racks. I got Mudd jeans for $5! I got a cute butterfly tank for $4! I got a nice shirt for work for $1.77!!

I will never pay more than $15 for a pair of pants, because if you look you will find them for cheap and its not worth it to buy pants for $30-45!

well if you don't have money....

there isn't anything wrong with going to places like Goodwill and the salvation army thrift shops.

you can find alot of good items there...and some with tags still on it.

like on a television show the woman found a really expensive sweater for like 3 bucks.

IF you have little money, I wouldn't worry about brands. I would start off with cheap items and then work your way up to brands.

For very discounted, quality items, try Ross', also TJ Maxx. For trends, do Charlotte Russe and the Wet Seal...
