ok as a paint contractot i usually bid it at $3.00/sf so 3 x 4000 but if i were to do it as per your situation friends/family discount and material provided i would go .50 to 1.00 / foot so 2k to 4k for the job that is cheaper than any professional but since you dont have materials insurance payroll or overhead .50-1.00/ foot is good on both ends hope that helps by the way my f&f discound is an average size living room with trim is usually 1900 bucks

Wow that's a lot of space.....you're gonna burn out those shoulder, neck and arm muscles!
My suggestion would be:
1. figure out how much paint for each room needed.
2. Find out what brand of paint they want....contractor grade or premium grade.
3. Calculate the cost of each room (brushes, paint, trim tape, drop-clothes, cleaning fluids, rollers, etc.)
4. You should have a price method.....total cost to you times four.
cost $ x 4 = your price to charge for painting.
(most painters charge any where from 3 to 10 times their cost)
Oh, don't forget to add your transportation cost (gas/fuel)
And most important....make sure they have homeowners insurance, in case you get hurt on their property. Very Important!
Have fun..!
PS...if they are going to supply all the stuff, then $8 to $10 dollars an hour is fair...because you're going to need to visit a physical therapist for all those aches and pains.

Should be 40 cents a square foot. That's about $1600 but I mean 40 cents per square feet of surface not room sizes (includes doors and trim). Otherwise $10-$12 an hr would be more then fair if they've been feeding you and buying beer.

you say friend or just an aquaintance, well i charge friends about 40 bucks a 12x15ft room thats for walls and ceilings and baseboards, multi-pane windows and doors i charge about 30 to 45 bucks for depending on size and prep work and if it is a real good friend and there is no sanding, scraping or patching i may cut him a bigger break.or just go by the hours you both put in say 8 hrs. a day times 2 at 10 to 12 bucks an hr. is very fair for a good job. pros charge upwards of 22 bucks an hour.

It depends on how much work you did. Was it just painting walls, or did you do trim, baseboards, interior closets, etc? Was there a lot of prep?

The average is around 200-300 per room for professionals.

Why not just chrge for your time. Figure out how many hours you spent and charge per hour. The hourly rate depends on where you live.

get a contractor's license, so the state won't ask you in court how much over $400 you charged this person.
then take a painting estimators class, yea, your putting them out of business too.
