Your body only gains calories from molecules that it can break down to glucose and use as energy. Your body can break down sugars (easy), fats (medium) and proteins (hard) to make glucose for energy. Water is just H2O and is nothing but a solvent really for your body. Think of it this way: Everything in your body, all the molecules inside the cells in your body and blood are dissolved in water. Water makes up a huge % of your total body mass (however you cannot go on a water diet....without this water, you would simply die). Water cannot be broken down or converted to sugars in any way. Therefore it doesn't contribute to calories.
However, proper water consumption can affect your bodies ability to burn calories. Dehydration can affect your bodies processes and decrease performance of your body, etc. No matter what diet you go on, you should always drink as much water as possible.

Water cannot contain calories or nutrients because a calorie is a unit of energy. It is actually the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water to 1 degree centigrade. Therefore the caloric value of food is the amount of energy the body uses to digest that food. There is no energy required to digest water ( your body doesn't have to break down water ).
A nutrient is any substance that contributes to an organism. Nutrients may be found in some spring water at a very low percentages but in bottled water, the nutrients are removed by the water purification process.

Since it's a natural substance so readily available, the corporate soft drink manufacturers can only wait until fresh drinking water becomes scarce. Then they'll bottle it, adding all kinds of sugars, corn syrups, and preservatives that will give it calories and maybe even some nutrients. That way we'll get 'hooked' on their water brand just as they've 'hooked' us on the sugary, syrupy colas and soda pops. -RKO-

Calories by definition are energy units. When we score foods with calories, we say how much "energy" that food has. As we know some calories are not real good for you, but none the less there is a ton of stored "energy" in fat and oils. Anyway, because your body gains no energy by breaking down water; water has no calories.

because it doesn't have anything in it. it doesn't cost energy for the body to use it so there are no calories involved at all. nutrients are minerals or vitamins/amino acids. unless something is dissolved in water you're not gonna get anything like that from water
