Cationic describes a positively charged species (a species being an atom, a molecule or an ion) and anionic describes a negatively charged species.

Hope this helps

I'll give this a try.

Cations (pronounced cat-ions) are metallic ions which carry a positive charge. They acquire this charge by getting rid of one or more electrons. They have the name "cations" since they have a charge (ions) and are attracted to the negative electrode of a battery (cathode).

Anions (pronounced an-ions) are nonmetallic ions which carry a negative charge. They acquire this charge by collecting extra electrons. They have the name "anions" since they have a charge (ions) and are attracted to the positive electrode of a battery (anode).

ions are charged particles.if from an atom or molecule electron/s are removed it becomes positively charged and if electron/s are added it becomes negatively charged.like charges repel and unlike charges attract and so by this rule the positively charged particles will move towards the negatively charged electrode known as cathode and the negatively charged particles will move towards the positively charged electrode known as anode.the particles moving towards are known as cations and the ones moving towards the anode are known as anions

to summarise positive ions move towards cathode so cations
negative ions move towards anode and so anions
