Scared the tar out of me! I used a stud detector, and had already drilled two other holes at same height on wall. Anyways, at 1.5" in, sparks flew out and my drill bit had actually melted a little when I pulled it out (immediately of course). Electricity didnt go out anywhere as far as I can tell. The wall was sheetrock, on the other side was an exterior wall (block construction) What might I have hit?

I agree with the above 3. The holes for wiring are drilled in the center of the studs per code most anywhere. and that equals around 1.5 to 2 inches in. I would definitely open the wall there and check the wiring that you hit. If it sparked you at the very minimum damaged the insulation on the wire. That is a fire hazard that might not cause a problem right away, but it could one night when you and your family are sleeping!!!!!!! Please open the wall up in the area you are talking about and inspect and repair the damage. If you don't believe you are qualified to complete the repair please call a licensed electrician. The drywall is a whole lot easier to repair than a fire inside a wall and possibly the entire house. Be safe and Good Luck!

For safety sake open the wall and check that there is,not wires cut . It could be that the studs are sidways and you hit the concrete block which could melt a common drill bit

sounds like you hit a wire and cut it off. Check all your plugs and lights to make sure they work. I would also open the sheetrock and make sure there is no fire hazard

you hit an electrical wire
if it actually melted your bit a lil then it had to be at least 110 volts
so somewhere there is no more power
i would get a electrcian if i were u because it can short out and cas a fire
(you could repair it yourself but obveisly u dont know much about wiring since you didnt know wat u hit lol)

Sounds like you hit a line in the house...an electrical line. Chances are pretty slim you'll do it again, but be careful!
