He basically does a rolling trap against the side of his foot, matching the speed of the incoming ball with the motion of his lower leg, using his foot to redirect the ball behind him. It's the equivalent of a no look behind the back pass in basketball, but has the added benefit of being nearly impossible to predict. Harder to pull off as a pass since you need to know who is behind you, but very effective near the goal since the defender is going for the ball and where he expects it to be. Fools the defender and the goalie. This can also be used well to clear a ball away from your own goal and give you defense a chance to get set.
