What do contractors do?

I want to flip a house and I want to know what kinds of things a contractor does. I know they build but do they lay tile or paint, etc?

Sub-contractors usually do those jobs. A general contractor put together the whole house and usually construct the foundation and frame themselves but subcontract out the other little jobs that they don't have the man power to do.

a General contractor is responsible for coordinating all of the trades.
You must specify in the contract how much you will pay the contractor and for which jobs.
