I have a Honeywell AC Unit but I have two problems with it?

The actual ac won't turn on and the control panel temp. will not change. It will display the room temp. then I will try to change it and it will display that for about two sec. then go back to the room temp. how do I make it work?

On the left side of the thermostat unit, pull off the cover and replace the batteries. Should solve both problems.
