I know that some skateboarders are upright citizens, only performing this activity in skate parks, etc.

But I have seen more public property damaged every year, that our tax money pays for, by irreponsible skateboarders. In addition, new public works projects have to install anti-skateboarding rails, bolts or other materials to avoid being ruined.

The money raised by the tax on skateboards would go to pay for these ruin-prevention methods, with any left over (if any) going to build legal skate parks for the law-abiding.

If you have other ways to combat this, share them. This is the only one I can come up with this evening.

Other 'sports' don't ruin benches, railings, seats, and other public property.

The biggest problem is not so much property damage as insurance. If some Idiot can injure themselves on your property and get a good lawyer you or your policy is liable for a lot of money. The only real defense is that you took every reasonable precaution to prevent an accident. Signs are not enough. The result is that you must make it impossible to do something stupid. So the property owners must install obstacles to skaters that are costly, ugly and interfere with maintenance to satisfy the Insurers.

Skateboarding is a normal activity that should be taken into account when putting in public structures, just like biking would be, or walking. The ultimate solution would be to make urban areas skateboard-proof. You can do the same sort of damage on foot if you have a crowbar. Should we tax crowbars, too? Sorry, but I don't see the tax thing working.

Ummmm, yeah, good luck with that.

Maybe we should also tax equestrians for all the horse crap their horses leave on mountain biking and hiking trails. Or tax people like you for using the internet, wasting people's time with stupid questions.

Skateboarding is not a crime. Live free, be yourself, leave the gun, take the canolis, quit worrying about others and worry about yourself. This country is WAY too uptight. What the hell happened to this supposedly great country?

If skateboarders are your biggest worry in life, maybe you have it really good. Personally, I'm just worried about procurring my next meal legally. Who cares what a bunch of kids are doing in the name of fun?

Maybe all the skateboarders should be locked up in jail. Would that make you happy? Then we can get rid of all the rollerbladers, all the cyclists, all the walkers, all the joggers.

Then we can ban drivers.

Maybe music and poetry should follow, no need for those, they are nothing but a public nuisance.

People like you disgust me.
