Learned behavior. And eating comfort foods, well bring comfort. When you are feeling stressed, instead of eating, try going for a walk. If you must eat, try to eat crunchy veggies, like baby carrots or celery. The crunchy veggies will help work some of the stress out. Walking would be better. It can release endorphins, and those make you feel better.

Stress and depression effect the chemical balance in our brains. When we are stressed or depressed we either going to want to eat a lot or eat a little or none at all.

Antidepressants can help control that because they slow the brain chemicals down.
If you don't feel comfortable with antidepressants, then teaching yourself self control is most helpful.

Instead of eating something, chew on a piece of gum. It really does help A LOT :)

You probably find it comforting to eat when you are stressed. Some people eat and some people drink . Some can't eat when they are stressed. I am one that can't eat. I once lost about fifteen pound when going through a very stressful time of my life. I think a little professional help might be in order in your case. I wish you well.God Bless.

It's a common reaction to stress....too many of us use food as a comfort...stress means we feel something is not within our control, but food is...we control what and how much...we feel better when sated...

Stress eating has always been a problem for me, and I battle constantly to keep my weight under control because of it...every time things in life get me uptight, I want to reach for something to help me feel better, and it's usually junk food...

Some people turn to different things, Me I use to work out and almost kill myself. It's a comfort zone. I'd start on reading up on different ideas about how to stop this, I have heard there's many books on this issue, One thing is the "finger tap" when your stressed out and going to that fast food place or ordering out, sit and finger tap, I know this sounds stupid but sometimes it gets your mind off things, plus I'd find a good stress reliever one thing is working out, another is screaming as loud as you want, or dancing, get into lots of activities this would help get your mind busy and stop thinking about FOOOOOD!!! it's alittle like retaining yourself...

That's just one of the many ways people deal with stress. It puts your mind on the food temporarily instead of the problem.

Because when you are emotionally stressed out, unhappy, depressed, etc, the body increases in norepinephrin. When you eat to comfort yourself, the food releases endorphins, which are the chemicals in your brain that make you "happy."
