Buy the special tool or remove the steering shaft. Just don't crossthread the spark plug hole

after reading some of the other answers i feel as though i am back in tech school get a block of wood and a floor jack and jack up the engine about an inch then remove the driversides inner fender plastic and go in through the wheel well with your sparkplug socket and a long extension then using a piece of rubber hose or if you are willing to pay ten bucks for a rubber spark plug installer install the plug by hand until you cant thread it in anymore then tighten with your socket and ratchet

I had an 95 jimmy (same thing) I just used a swivel socket, and a longer extension. When reinstalling the plug, I used a short piece of hose to get it stareted, then the same socket and extension to tighten it. You will have to jack the truck up and teurn the wheel to.

Try using a longer extension between the plug socket and the ratchet. It will give you a bit more room to play with.

By reading the above answers, it all depends on how much patience and money you have. ME? I would do the swivel and hose thing.
