I just started Ortho Evra (the patch) today, and I have been really really nauseous all day. Is that normal? Should I call my OB?

Some people have adverse reactions to certain kinds of birth controls. Your body is probably responding to the medicine this way, but most likely it is still doing it's job (protecting you from pregnancy). Strange side effects do not mean that the drug is not performing, just that your body is responding to it in a negative way.

My advice to you is to keep trying it for another 3-4 days and if you still feel the same way, call your gynocologist or whoever prescribed Ortho Evra to you, and ask for a different form of birth control. I had to try three different pills before I found one that my body accepted without bad reactions. Your doctor should be able to prescribe you one without as many hormones as are in Ortho Evra which could be making you sick like this because it's putting your body on overload. :o)

It's common to feel nausiouc while on birth control. It's one of the side effects. If it doesnt go away by tomorrow, or even in a few days, then schedule an appt. with your OB. You have a few options to choose from

1. switch to a lower dosage
2. get off the patch and switch to the pill instead
3. get the shot

I've been taking Berlex (name brand of the birth control pill) for 5 months now, and since day 1 I havent had any side effects, or at least any that I have noticed. lol.

That is one of the side effects the patch has...if after 3 days it doesn't go away I would definately call your OB.
I know for some people it doesn't affect them at all, and others are nothing but sick because of it.
Good luck.

Yes, call your OB. It turns out that the Ortho-Evra patch contains a lot more estrogen than they originally anticipated. The nausea is like the kind of morning sickness you get when you are pregnant.
There are other alternatives to the Ortho-Evra patch, but your own OB is the best one to advise you on this.

Birth control works differently for everyone. You should contact your doctor and see if it is normal or a dosage problem. You can also get information online.

It is a normal side effect and one of the most common. The game is to see how well you can tolerate it before having to try something else. Hopefully this one will work for you. Give your body a couple of months to adjust properly. Side effects are always worse in the beginning.

I'm also on Ortho Evra. I'm not as nauseated with it as i was on the pills. When I first started taking it, it did make me nauseated. Once your body gets used to it, it should go away. If it doesn't you may need to get a lower dose of harmone.

there is a lot of different kinds of birth control. tell your OB about your symptoms and they may give you another one to try. i changed birth control pills and the new one gave me a headache, so i tried another one, and it was perfect.

Most B.C.'s make people a little nauseated at first. Give it a bit of time to see if you get used to the hormone level. If not, give your doc a call.
