Well, if they were a friend, I probably wouldn't have lost them to begin with (isn't this what the internet is for? ;)) but if I did meet up with a long lost friend, I would do the following -
if it is a guy friend:
Do the whole man-hug thing and ask how he is doing?
if it is a girl friend:
Like every man, immediately analyze the way she looks compared to how she looked the last time I saw her, which may add a second to two seconds to the hug depending on increase of attraction - cause, y'know, all men are scum.

Usually about the same as you, but initially, stunned silence with my mouth agape, then an "Oh my God! What the hell are you doing here!?", then a hug and a kiss followed by a looonnnggg chat...

we do the scene from "the color purple" when the 2 sister are being torn apart we clap hands and sing maki data aint no ocean aint no sea maki data then we laugh our heads off and hug we are all crazy like that
