We know that having a Social Security number is voluntary, and yet nearly everywhere you go for work, they ask for a Social Security number. What is all that about? If you don't have one, they look at you as if you had three heads. You can't even join the military unless you have a number. Not sure if the same is true for getting drafted in time of war.

Robert F brings up the SS Act, which states that it is voluntary, and I have read the Taco Bell case, and know that this company does not require a SS number to be fillled in on their employment forms, but this is no occupation I wish to persue.
This question is for the sovereign citizen born on American soil, not some immigrating person from another country. Does one not give up their sovereignty when they take this number? After all, a U.S. citizen is not the same thing as a Sovereign Texas, or one born on Michigan or Tenn. soil. U.S. anything is foreign to the united States of America jurisdiction. This is the 10 square mile buffer zone (Washington D.C.) that our founders set up when this country was organized and it was established that way in order to conduct trade with foreign countries under contract law. Why on earth would anyone want to become subject to a foreign jurisdiction when they were born under the best of all circumstances on the planet?

Get a copy of the Social Security Act of 1934 and a copy of the court cases Diversified Systems vs EEOC , Taco Bell vs EEOC, and they can help
In the Social Security Act , the first page states it is voluntary and further in You agree to change your citizenship.
The BEAST is working very hard on this.

Only a job that pays very little because the employer has to deduct and withhold taxes from the amount of wages exceeding your exemptions and send the money to the government identified by your social security number. If you worked as an independent contractor, the employer would not have to withhold taxes, but he would have to file a 1099 if you were paid more than $600 a quarter. The 1099 also requires a social security number of Employer's Identification Number.
Now the law does provide something of away around this, but I do not know that it works.
The IRS provides a form for employers and employees to use if an employee has legitimate objections to having a social security number. It is called "Form P-1, Reasonable Cause Affidavit by Payor For Not Obtaining Payee's Identifying Number". Properly filled out and signed by the employer and employee, it serves as a release from the penalty otherwise provided for an employer under IRS Code Section 26 U.S.C. 6724(a). The employer certifies that it attempted to get the number, and the employee certifies that he or she declined to give the number.
If you have a really strong religious or philosophical objection to being numbered, you should follow your conscience.

Any job that has to pay taxes, must have a SS#. I would imagine that ANY legitimate job would require some type of income tax. Paying income taxes are NOT voluntary. So unless you want to support your self by finding under the table jobs, you will have to get a SS#.

All legal employment requires a social security number or a tax identification number. Although it seems a lot of trades (masons, painters, roofers, etc...), as well as waiters, cooks, busboys are not really abiding by the law.

You should have social security number, it is very important in searching for jobs, opening bank accounts or even getting your degree. I dont think it is voluntary, as far as i know it is compulsory here in the US, if you dont have any ssn, then you cant have a job aside from becoming a volunteer but eventually they will be getting your ssn. You better apply for a ssn for you to get a job. It is very important and you have to be careful with your ssn. Keep it to yourself, dont let others know your ssn.
