I had this problem in my old apt once...I found out where they were coming from, sprayed the crap out of it with ant spray and went and got some clear caulk and sealed off the gaps between the counters and the wall and sealed any holes i saw and the problem ceased immediately.

Take everything out of your cabinets, food, dishes, etc. Wipe the shelves and walls of the cabinets down with any disinfectant cleaner containing bleach. Don't forget the undersides of the shevles. While the cabinets are drying, clean off the food containers and dishes, especially anything that has become sticky. But clean it all. Thoroughly mop your kitchen floor, clean the counters and under the stove. Once you've done that there should be nothing left for them to eat.

Afterwards, try to make sure that things don't go into the cabinet dirty - such as a honey jar that can get sticky. If you have sugary cereals put them in air tight containers.

VERY IMPORTANT: Store sugar and flour in air tight containers, and be sure they don't getg sticky on the outside. Better yet, store sugar and flour in the freezer - especially good for brown sugar, which will not turn into a rock in the freezer.

I did the above a few years ago and haven't seen an ant since.

Mix some confectioners sugar (like icing sugar) with baking soda. They'll take this back to their hill and all the little ants will enjoy the food. Problem is, they can't tell the difference between the sugar and the soda. They'll eat the soda and their little ant tummys will explode from the inside out. You can also try sprinkling baked then crushed eggshells around the place where they're getting in. They hate that stuff! Both are completely harmless to other pets... Unless you keep another ant colony as pets...

Be careful what you use around food surfaces...if you need to spray try Windex (with ammonia), it'll kill the ants but won't put your health in jeapordy like most ant point sprays will...

You may need to get an exterminator involved though, we're having them bad here in FL this year...many think it's due to lack of rain...they're coming inside looking for water (and food)...

Our family is also struggling with this problem in our kitchen. We've tried ant poison which hasn't worked real well. Hopefully we'll spray the kitchen soon.

there is a product called Toro.. may not be spelled correctly.. be careful.. it is a sweet syrup that the ants eat and carry back to the nest.. kills em dead.. but animals will lick it up if they can get to it. We were able to safely use it around our kitties, but they know better than to climb on the kitchen counters.. good luck

natures janitors will never leave.
there are various products you can try but most will fail eventually.
the only solution is to keep your kitchen so spotless there is no reason for the janitors to come.
