Hi,
You mentioned a key lock so I am going to assume you want to but a lock on your bedroom door.
But where ever it is the advice is the same.
You can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a lock set and replace it yourself. It is not hard to do. The lock will come with instructions.
The people at the store can give you help or e-mail me if you still have a question.
If you just buy the inexpensive lockset it will cost you around $20 to $30

New locks can range from about 25 dollars to 75 dollars, if its an outdoor lock you want an entry lock, bedroom door can lock but hasn't a key, thats a privacy lock. If it is just a doorknob with no locak at all it's a passage lock. no matter what if the holes in the door and the jamb are in good shape, it' shouldn't be much

A lock smith or a carpenter can change out a simple lockset in a matter of seconds, literally seconds. If the door needs to be bored it should take less than 1 hour. So at STL rates, it would be about $60.00 plus the cost of the lockset.

Can't speak for your particular area, but in my business if it's a simple replacement of an existing unit, and you already have the new equipment then probably about $65. If it's a new installation in a door where the hole has to be drilled both for the handle and the bolt, then probably about $85 - $95.
It's not a particularly complicated job, but it does require that you have some specialized equipment.

I am not sure about the cost but if you didn't know they can install a new mechanism in the lock you have and give you a new key and it is a lot cheaper than the whole new lock.
