In January 1994, Canada, the United States and Mexico launched the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and formed the world's largest free trade area. The Agreement has brought economic growth and rising standards of living for people in all three countries. In addition, NAFTA has established a strong foundation for future growth and has set a valuable example of the benefits of trade liberalization

North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA):

1. Is a multilateral agreement for free trade sphere negotiated that comprises Canada, the US and Mexico.
2. Implemented January 1, 1994.
3. To promote free trade between Canada, the US and Mexico. NAFTA forms the world's second largest free-trade zone, bringing together and exceeding 365 million consumers and with a combined output of $6 trillion in Canada, Mexico, and the United States in an open market.
4. To lower and gradually eliminate most barriers (tariffs and non-tariff barriers) to trade, and other forms of trade protectionism (e.g. quotas) among these countries over a period of about 14 years.
5. To encourage investment among these countries.
6. To follow specified agreements to protect workers and the environment among these three countries.
7. To increase the scope for the free flow trade and investment among these three countries.
8. To give more specific provisions concerning the conduct of trade and investment that reduce the scope for government intervention in managing trade.
9. Was championed by the Bush administration but opposed by those fearing the loss of manufacturing jobs to Mexico and the erosion of environmental safeguards.
10. Chile has since joined NAFTA.
11. This was the first time in history that a free trade agreement was signed between a first world country (United States) and a third world country (Mexico).

North American Free Trade Agreement
supposedly to bolster the economy with U.S.A and our neighbors to the north and south (Canada & Mexico).
But the U.S has yet to see many benifits as the other two country's, it has hurt our economy the most and they have resorted to shady tricks like requiring truck drivers to have visa's to come over the border.
Have given in to other country's like not requiring Mexico to take our grain because it would hurt there economy.
Also they do not want to alow Mexican trucks into the U.S because mexico does not have the pollution requirements that the U.S. has.
I think it has resulted in the loss of jobs to Canada and Mexico

North American Free Trade Agreement: Between the US, Canada, and Mexico...free trade amongst all. Signed by Clinton. Ross Perot and his then comical statement of the "big sucking sound" of our jobs going south....isn't so funny anymore.

North American Free Trade Agreement. It benefits America mostly, because they can avoid tariffs on our goods that other countries have to pay.
