Jan Egeland said the "disproportionate response" by Israel to Hezbollah's actions was a "violation of international humanitarian law".
Isn't that like saying that the US nuking Japan is a disproportionate response since they did not kill any civilians, and 97% of the hiroshima and Nagaskai casualties were civilian. Putting all WWII hatred aside, what are your views?

Yes, I believe Israel has made a "disproportionate response" to the Hezbollah, thus "punishing" the Lebanese and Palestinian civilians and indirectly the Israeli civilians as well.

An indiscriminate attack affecting the civilian population or civilian objects and resulting in excessive loss of life, injury to civilians or damage to civilian objects is a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions. ( Protocol I, Art. 85, Sec. 3)

Civilians must not be punished for offenses that they personally did not commit. Collective penalties, intimidation and penalties against civilian populations are prohibited. (Convention IV, Art. 33)

Grave breaches of the Conventions and Protocols are war crimes.

Israel does everything reasonable to minimize civilian casualties, including dropping leaflets warning residents to get out of areas about to be bombed. (Don't expect Jan Egeland or any of the "Jan Egelands" of the world to note that).

Hezbollah and Hamas want to MAXIMIZE civilian casualties on both sides. (Hey, how come noone in Israel ever received a warning leaflet from the Hezbollah?)

And once you decide to hide missiles in your house for one of these Jihad cults, you give up your status as a "civilian".
