The man and the woman.

BTW, "back-alley" abortion just means that women went into a door off a back alley, instead of through the front door. According to Planned Parenthood, in the 1950s or 1960s about 80% of abortions were done in a doctor's office.

So much for the coat hanger myth.

If the woman and the man decide together to perform the abortion together, they are both to blame personally for the life of the woman and the fetus, because they knew they were assuming some risk.

However, since it's safe to say that the mother would not have been harmed attempting the abortion had it been performed by a doctor, the law outlawing abortion and the people who passed it or voted it in bear some responsibility for the life of the woman, since they took away her legal and safe outlet to end her pregnancy.

There is no way to stop people from having abortions, there are only ways to stop people from having safe ones.

Sex is a privilege, not a right.

If two people are not mature and responsible enough to practice effective birth control and are not mature enough to take the responsibility to care for the life a child that would result if it fails they are not ready for sex. The man is responsible for birth control as well if he is not willing to take responsibility for a child.

But it is the female that carries the child and any shame society wishes to place on her. If society does not provide a way to help her and throws her out on the street then the blame belongs to all of us.

So many focus on the wrongness of abortion, but take no responsibility for setting up the situation in the first place. What help do they offer a deserted woman with no way to care for a child on her own? What punishment goes to the men who lie and seduce and then take no responsibility afterwards?

I personally don't think abortions are right - would never have one or advise someone to have one. HOWEVER, this is an example of why abortions should be legal. Because some people are stupid and don't use birth control or abstinence. Before having an abortion, a couple would have to go through counseling to ensure that it is a good choice for them, and to advise them as to what other options are out there. I think this might not work for my American neighbours, however, since I believe their medicine is for-profit only and counseling would be biased in favour of performing the procedure.

Sorry for digressing.
In the end, it was their choice to take those steps, cognizant of the risks. They deserve to go to trial for manslaughter. It is not right to break the law regardless of what your personal opinions are.

If it is a state where they are denying the woman the right to have a legal abortion then it is the idiots who decided that it is time to take a step back in time. If it is in a state (or province) where it is still legal, both the man and the woman are at fault.

Not completely prochoice as I see too many people using it as a form of birth control. but i see too many states walking backward in time. pretty soon the rule of thumb will be back into play. the one that says the man can beat his wife as long as he doesn't use a branch that is wider than his thumb. OOPPS! am I off topic? pardon moi!

I'm actually certified in administering abortions. The people to blame are those scared that humanity will loose its "religious, mysterious" sanctity religion (more specifically, Christianity) places on human life...in hopes of preventing a world where life is a commodity and the only primary concern is the advancement of science & technology at whatevr costs...and thats putting it to the extreme - but duhh, you knw

Since it is the woman's body carrying the life inside her. It is her judgment to proceed with removal. She has a voice, so she did it to herself. She allowed it, being that it was her own body. If somebody shoved ants in her mouth and said EAT IT. And she had a allergic reaction, and suffocated? Would the other person be responsible? She could have spit it out! We are all responsible for our own doing!! We should never blame another, except ourselves, for our own doings.

Both, they both agreed to have sex. The woman gets pregnant. They both want to kill the child and both the child and the mother are harmed and killed.

It's not like the guy held her down and made her do anything, she agreed to everything.
