Why laugh? It was a really good film that really shows how deeply people can suffer when they are different from mainstream society. And since everyone is different from mainstream society in some way (or should be if they're lucky), I think sympathy and compassion are more on the mark. Even my wife, who doesn't understand how people can be gay, was moved to tears.

I'm relatively old now, but when I was in school, the kids who were really anti-gay turned out to be gay themselves years later. Maybe you should examine why you're laughing.

I didn't laugh and I didn't know it was a gay movie. The title gave me the first impression that it was Chingish (bad translation from Chinese to English)!!!! Oscar winning movie directed by Ang Lee (Chinese), another Kung Fu Movie?? You know? Chinese filmmakers like to put words like "mountain"... "breaking" ... "bleeding" ... "door", etc. in Kung Fu movies' titles. I was shocked when I found out that it was about gay cowboys!

In Chinese, "Interest of broke sleeve" (Chingish again) refers homosexuality, from history back to hunderd of years ago, a King slept with his friend (gay guy), woke up in the morning and found he couldn't move much because the other guy was sleeping on his sleeve. He cut off the sleeve carefully without waking his lover up. (Wasn't he a caring lover? especially he was the King!)

Here in Hong Kong, people now use "brokeback" to refer homosexuality, not many Chinese know what "broke sleeve" means!

If we had to break something to make people stop discriminating,... we have to break whatever!

No. Brokeback Mountain was a very good movie. Shows life is tough and you cant have the best of everything for yourself.

Not really. I kind of took it as Hollywood taking a purely American manly thing (being a cowboy) and making it into a homosexual deal, just like when I was a kid and they made the godawful "Zorro, the Gay Blade" movie.

I really don't have anything against homosexuals (especially girls), but why do the Hollywood types have to make everything a statement about their sexual preference at the top of their lungs?

Yes, but not over the gay theme...I just start to laugh because I'm expecting people to start saying a certain line in the movie. It was just kind of funny how much you started to hear it.

Yes I do! I think it is funny to hear about a movie with gay cowboys and call it "Brokeback".

Not really, but it gave rise to a new CB slang term for homosexual. "Brokeback Mountain Cowboy" replaced "Good Buddy" quite a while ago.

Oh yes! That naughty thought "so that's why they call it Brokeback Mountain" always runs through my head.

NO....people that laugh should see the movie...the ending is very sad. People that HAVE seen the movie and still laugh are the same people that laugh when all the people are drowning in Titanic
